“When I took my first ballet class with Miss Angela at the age of three I had no idea that it would be the beginning of the training that would shape the rest of my life. As a teacher Angela provided me with a strong foundation in dance and invaluable advice when auditioning for the UK’s top musical theatre colleges. At the age of eleven we were encouraged to audition to become Sunday associates of the Urdang Academy of performing arts in Covent Garden London. Seven years later after another audition, I successfully accepted a place on Urdang’s professional musical theatre course, where I trained full time for three years.
The Angel School of dance was the start of the journey that has led me to where I am today, currently performing in the off west end revival of Stephen Sondheim’s ‘Anyone Can Whistle’ at the Union Theatre, London after returning from Hong Kong where I played Elsa/Rapunzel in the original cast of Disney’s ‘Mickey and The Wondrous Book’. I have also worked as a Lead Singer and Dancer/Singer for Celebrity and P&O Cruises, played Princess Ariel/parade dancer in Disneyland Paris and been in the UK Tour of ‘Robin Hood the Musical’ playing the role of Maid Marian.
The Angel School of Dance is a wonderful school and I will forever be thankful for everything Miss Angela taught me.”
“In order to be in an industry which demands so much emotional and physical energy from an individual, you have to allow yourself to be completely passionate and devoted to what you do.
For me, starting my dancing at the Angel School of Dance was where this love began. The copious amounts of glitter during shows, inspiration from the senior dancers and professional teaching allowed me to develop my love in a positive and caring environment.
From this, I was spotted and began vocational ballet training in Bristol, where I gained my intermediate and advanced RAD exams in under three years, as well as my advanced modern and tap. Successfully auditioning for the National Youth Ballet for two years also gave me the opportunity to dance on the Saddlers wells stage, and the Savoy theatre, along with being filmed for an ITV IDent as a ballet dancer.
My modern dance training also saw me successfully compete and reach to the finals of The ISTD Janet Cram awards, premium category. This gave me the confidence to apply and audition for full time vocational dance and musical theatre schools, and after much deliberation of which college to accept offers from, I accepted a scholarship at the Urdang Academy on the Degree course. Now in my third year, I am over the moon to be playing the lead role ‘Kitty’ in our third year musical ‘The Drowsy Chaperone’, and am looking forward to graduating in June, and getting into the big world of auditions! “Katie Burton
“I began dance classes at the age of 3 with the Angel School of Dance, Miss Angela was my first dance teacher. She inspired me to dance and really sparked an early passion. I remember my time with the Angel school of dance very fondly and as a very positive and encouraging environment.
Since dancing at the Angel School of Dance I have progressed in my training, gaining a place as an Associate of National Dance Company Wales, National Youth Dance Wales 2016 company and Monmouthshire Youth Dance Company. All these experiences were a stepping stone in helping me to gain a place at leading dance school, Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London.
I have been training for a BA Hons degree in Contemporary Dance and have had incredible performance opportunities since moving to London. Most recently, working with Matthew Bourne and his company New Adventures to restage ‘Highland Fling’ (based on the classical ballet ‘La Sylphide’.)
I am very grateful for Miss Angela’s early inspiration and patience. I am now fulfilling a dream.”
“The Angel School of Dance provided me with the strong dance technique and stage presence required for the professional musical theatre industry.
The skills obtained under the tuition of Angela Fryer gave me the confidence to audition, and consequently obtain a place on the 3 year BA Hons Musical Theatre course at The Guildford School of Acting, to which I obtained a 1st class degree.
I have since put my training into practise in several productions including understudying Stephanie Beacham as the wicked witch in ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ (Yvonne Arnaud Theatre), Usherette/Lick Me, Bite Me in the UK Tour of ‘The Producers’ (starring Peter Kay), Princess Ariella in ‘Betwixt!’ (a new off West-End musical) and appeared as Fairy Godmother in ‘Cinderella’ in Redditch during Christmas 2008.”Amy Griffiths
